Oil spill in Gulf of Mexico.

For Telugu Viewers

For English Viewers

We are hearing everyday that various plants and aquatic animals are threatened due to the Oil spill in Gulf of Mexico. Oil is emerging out from the underground. Some people may ask what's the problem? Imagine some poisonous gases are emerging from one corner of our house. Family members gradually become sick. After some years the whole house would be filled up with the poisonous gases. So, it would become impossible to live in that house. These poisonous gases would also spread in the surroundings. This is what is happening in the Gulf of Mexico. It has been noted that an Oil well is releasing oil in to the sea. Slowly that oil is spreading in water to the coastal areas also and becoming hazardous to the plants and animals living there. The actions of man on the name of development are polluting the environment and damaging the nature. Man is creating a threat to his own existence by such deeds. This case is an example for this.

Stop cutting of trees - start re-locating them !

FOR TELUGU VIEWERS (ZOOM THE PIC)

FOR ENGLISH VIEWERS

The movement of vehicles is gradually on rise in cities. Increase in population, improvement in the standard of living are increasing the number of vehicles. This is causing lot of traffic problems in cities. The solution to this is found as 'Road Widening'. For this work, daily many big trees are being cut down in our country. This is very awful, but there is a solution. Instead of cutting down the trees, they can be trans-located. It means shifted to some other place.

In Hyderabad and Bangalore, some voluntary organisations, social workers, environmental activists and municipalities have taken initiative and have saved many trees by trans-locating them. But this translocation is an expensive work. Interested individuals can support this initiative to save trees by funding this cause along with some business firms and the government. It would cost several thousands to shift a tree from one place to another, but when compared to the benifit a tree offers us in its life time, the cost is very less.

A Tree that lives for 50 years generates :
Rs: 5.3 lakhs worth of oxygen,
recycles Rs: 6.4 lakhs worth of fertility and soil erosion control,
creates Rs: 10.5 lakhs worth of air pollution control,
gives Rs:5.3 lakhs worth of shelter for birds and animals.
it also provides flowers, fruits and lumber.

So, when even one tree is cut down, the nation loses something worth
more than 32 lakhs. So, when even one tree is planted or saved , the nation
earns something worth more than 32 lakhs. We should save trees, that is our
responsibility… Stop cutting down of trees and encourage relocating or translocation of Trees !

Avoid the disaster - Oil Spills !

FOR TELUGU VIEWERS (Zoom the PIC)

FOR ENGLISH VIEWERS

Oil Spill is one of the dangerous causes that damage the environment. It means releasing liquid named as petrol hydro carbons into atmosphere. Mostly the word "Oil Spill" is used for the crude oil released into seas or rivers. The oils which are used as fuels are sent to other far-off countries in huge tankers. These tankers may sometime collide with each other or hit some hill / mountain. At that time some crack or breach in the tanker would lead to 'Oil Spill'. Some companies release Oil compounds into the water bodies such as rivers or seas. A layer of oil is spread on the top of the water due to oil spill and it doesn't allow the sunlight and oxygen to go into the water. Many acquatic animals lose their life as a result of this. Not only that, oil goes into the feathers of birds like duck and they lose their ability to keep themselves warm. This oil also reaches to the internal parts of the birds through feathers. It damages their internal organs and destroy the digestive system etc. Very few animals or birds could survive the disaster named as "Oil Spill".

Avoid oil spills and save the water animals :-)

3 R's

FOR TELUGU VIEWERS

FOR ENGLISH VIEWERS

We often hear the word "The Three 'R' " related to Environment. These three "R" indicate Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

Reduce : We should reduce the Waste material / garbage as much as possible. We should not buy anything unnecessarily. Many times we purchase small plastic tiffin boxes or pencil boxes without thinking if they are needed. Later we leave them unused. It would increase the Waste materials. So, we should think before we buy any thing or product.

Reuse : Reuse means using a particular thing again and again. Products are often sold with different kinds of packing. We usually get cardboard boxes with buscuits, footwear, sarees etc. We should use those products for some purpose cleverly and creatively.

Recycle : Paper, plastic, clothes etc can be useful even after using once. Some industries manufacture different kinds of products using these things. So, we should carefully separate the waste material before throwing them away.

FOR ENGLISH VIEWERS

"Green Knowledge," means awareness on Environment is necessary for everyone. In Olden days it was not required to separately say or talk about eco-friendly practices and methods. Because the habits and practices of our ancestors were beneficial to environment. For example, when the water was dripping from roof, they used to collect it in a bucket and use it for various purposes on the next day. To avoid wastage of rain water they also used to divert it to plants. They used to grow vegetables and fruits in the backyard of houses. They had the habit of utilising the peels of fruits, vegetables, used tea or coffee powder as manure to these plants. They used to regard Food as God and strictly used to avoid its wastage. Carrying a cloth bag for shopping was a common practice.

Most of their habits are the same that we are thinking of implementing these days. The environmental problems were quite less in those days, as they made such eco-friendly habits as a part of their life. Even the magnitude of air, water and soil pollution was very less.

Let us cultivate such eco-frienly habits once again and reduce the pollution. Let's save our Mother Earth !

Lets avoid Plastic and make our surroundings as PLASTIC FREE ZONES !

FOR ENGLISH VIEWERS

Government and municipalities are taking some steps to protect the Environment. Declaring the places with a possibility of gathering of large number of people as "Plastic Free Zone" is one among them. For example, in Hyderabad Nehru Zoological Park, surroundings of Hussain sagar lake, tankbund and necklace road etc are declared as Plastic free zones. The usage of plastic bags and bottles is banned in these places. This has a positive impact on environment and also on animals. Many animals used to eat the plastic covers which have the left over food thrown by us and lost their lives due to suffocation or other problems. It would be very beneficial to the environment if the schools and colleges also declare their premises as "Plastic free Zones".

( Extra points : Plastic causes loss to soil and hinders the growth of plants and trees. It stops the rain water from reaching underground and also decrease the fertility of soil. Plastic is also responsible for the death of many animals. So, please avoid using Plastic covers, bags or bottles and declare your premises as "Plastic free Zone")
